Europe tour 2024

About this Performance

The Waseda University Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce its 16th overseas tour “Europe Tour 2024” at the end of fiscal year 2023. This performance will be held with the aim of international cultural exchange, deepening mutual understanding through exchange in the form of concerts with audiences from various countries.

The orchestra is committed to the philosophy of “seeking better music as an orchestra” in its daily activities. In this context, the orchestra has been touring abroad about once every three years until 2018, starting with its victory at the 5th International Youth Orchestra Competition held at the Berlin Philharmonic in 1978.

In 2021, the orchestra was scheduled to make its 16th overseas tour, but due to the spread of the new coronavirus, it was forced to cancel the tour. However, now that the outbreak is under control, we believe that we will be able to hold an overseas tour in 2024, and we are currently working on a plan to do so. If we are able to hold the concert, it will be our first overseas performance in about six years. In addition to the Vienna Musikverein in Austria, we are also planning to perform at the Berlin Philharmonie, one of the world’s most prestigious concert halls.

During our long activities in the Corona Disaster, we have experienced difficulties and suffering that we have never experienced before. However, each time we have hit a wall, the members of the orchestra have worked together and with the help of you, we have overcome the obstacles. This year, the orchestra celebrates its 110th anniversary. In this milestone year, we would like to continue the tradition of “overseas performances” which was once almost interrupted, and we would like to connect it to the future.

We are determined to make further efforts to ensure the success of this performance. Thank you very much for your continued support.
